If you are amidst a choir group full of amateur musicians like you then it becomes very difficult to find your own time of individual practice. Each choir rehearsal is fixed upon a certain time limit which is definitely very limited and in such cases you do not get enough room to show your skills. That’s why it is very much important that you organize yourselves so that you are able to utilize most of the time of such a limited time choir rehearsal. Some of the tips are mentioned below that would definitely allow you to make the most of the limited time rehearsal.
Be familiar with the songs
• The first and the foremost thing which you must ensure is that everybody learns the songs and their individual tenor part during their own time other than the rehearsal time. If you don’t know the part of the song which you would be singing then trying to practice it during the choir rehearsal is a sheer wastage of time.
• So always make sure that you are familiar with the songs before the start of a rehearsal so that you can concentrate on the arrangement and group sound during the rehearsal time.
Balancing the old and the new songs
• Here old songs refer to those songs which you and your choir group have practiced in the past. You can very well spend your choir rehearsal time in learning new songs. But you also need to stay in touch with the older ones. For this you can divide your rehearsal time. You set aside some of the time for practicing the older songs so that you don’t forget how it was played or who sang which tenor part etc.
• A good way to revise the old songs is to revise them before the start or the end of a rehearsal so that your entire rehearsal time is solely devoted to learning new songs.
Rehearsing the songs without looking at the lyrics
• Generally the choir groups prefer rehearsing by keeping music sheets, charts or lyrics in front of them. At the initial stages it can be excused but if you are using them during a final rehearsal then certainly it is a bad practice. After all you will never find any choir group singing on stage holding a music sheet in front of them.
